FEATUREDDATE NIGHTDINNER WITH FRIENDSEASY TO RESERVE

When you look at the menu for Oxomoco, you might be a little put off. It’s short, with less than 20 choices, simple, mainly consisting of tacos and tostadas, and oddly expensive. Hold off on your frustration and resolve to order a few things to share. I promise it will all be fantastic and you’ll be tempted to order more (as you should). Chef Justin Bazdarich, who’s behind the successful pizza joint Speedy Romeo, focuses on chiles and wood-fire cooking, creating depth of flavor in every bite. While the menu might sound like Mexican fine dining, the vibe is far from it. The spacious dining room is covered by a large skylight, creating a casual, laidback atmosphere. The Soya Marinated Tuna Tostada and Caesar Salad are a must, and I also recommend the Scallop and Hiramasa Aguachile (or whichever aguachile is on the menu). My biggest tip is to opt for a late brunch and get the Gloria Pancake. A Mexican take on the sticky toffee pancake, it’s topped with a cajeta (goat milk caramel) and pecan toffee syrup, and should be on every list for best pancakes in the city right now.

Who to Bring: Oxomoco is great for a date where the food and light conversation take center stage. It's also good for groups, but I recommend no more than 4 due to the small portions.

What to Wear: During the day keep it casual, and at night keep it trendy but not too dressy.

Reservations:  Available on Resy and attainable with some planning.  For brunch I recommend booking at least a week out, and for dinner I recommend booking two weeks in advance for the most optionality.

First Row: Gloria Pancake, Ensalada Caesar, Pink Moon Oysters; Second Row: Scallop and Hiramasa Aguachile, Beet Tostada, Saudero Tacos
