Casa Enrique was a little confusing to me at first. Given its notoriety and former Michelin star status (currently Michelin recommended), I was surprised by the minimal decor (I’m 99% sure the chairs are plastic) and casual vibe. But when the food came, I understood. Start with the Albondigas en Chipotle, meatballs with an egg inside sitting in a soup of chipotle tomato sauce - sounds a little strange but I promise they are fantastic. Don’t miss the Tostadas de Jaiba (crab) and the Enchiladas De Pollo Con Mole de Piaxtla - the mole is some of the best I’ve had in the city. If you’re there for brunch (which leans more lunch in my opinion), get the Chilaquiles Rojos, which feature crispy chips actually holding up to a pool of salsa roja. Once you go you’ll quickly understand how it became a neighborhood staple, and I’m sure you’ll add it to your rotation (trek to LIC be damned).
